Wishing you and your families a very happy Thanksgiving weekend with all of the gifts that this beautiful season has in store for you. After a busy week at school, I enjoy this gorgeous crisp weather this weekend, and I hope you got outside to burn off those turkey dinners as well:)What a great week it has been for Division 4! We are really starting to get into our routines and our students are becoming more familiar with the new expectations in grade 4. Please look out for the interim report card, which will be sent home by the end of this coming week. It will provide families with a quick glimpse of their child's assessment with regards to work habits, behaviour and effort.
This week, our students completed their short essays about their name, which they wrote based on the interviews they conducted with family members. We also created some cool name art, which can be admired on the bulletin board outside of our classroom.
In Math, we wrote our first quiz on Thursday and all of the students did very well, demonstrating their learning of our first unit on large numbers to 10,000 and estimating sums and differences. I can tell that many of them studied prior to the quiz and that they are starting to develop some strong study skills, which will benefit them throughout their school years.
In Science, we continued to learn about weather and we started a Weather Watcher activity, which includes a daily weather report that students complete independently each morning. Our boys and girls have demonstrated some interest in world geography and we have already explored the location of our continent and some countries. I love geography and am pleased to see some interest in this exciting topic. Next week, I hope to begin a Social Studies unit on mapping. Let's keep going and continue this exciting learning journey together!
